Empowerment – Keep Growing Throughout Life

Empowerment is such a wonderful strong word. It conveys power and strength. I think it is a very apt word for what we all desire in life which is to feel good about who we are and to be in charge of the direction our life takes.

Not all of us were blessed to be raised in homes where love was shown openly, communication was clear, individual differences were appreciated, rules were flexible and honesty was valued. We were left with gaps in our self confidence. What we also know is that the stronger our self-worth the easier it is to maintain the courage to change our behavior. Walt Disney understood this well when he said ” All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them”.

We learn to empower ourselves by having the courage to unlearn what does not serve us well. We do that by opening ourselves up to learning more effective ways to communicate and tools that enhance our coping skills. Studies of the brain validate that the capacity to learn new things is not limited. Rather we can continue to learn throughout our life.

Empowerment comes from valuing who one is and treating oneself with love. How can you grow your empowerment? You do it by having the courage to take action NOW. It doesn’t matter so much what you do. It is the act of doing something daily that helps you evolve to be the person you know you are capable of being. It can be as simple as saying: I will make my bed every morning or I will take 20 minutes daily for myself.
